THE JOY OF A
CAKE SMASH
WHAT ON EARTH is a
CAKE SMASH?
“What on earth is a cake smash?” I hear you ask…
Well, it’s a session in which we give the birthday boy or girl a lovely homemade cake and let them do with it as they please – usually they smash it! Some eat it, some smoosh it, some sit on it. Why? Because what better way to celebrate?! Of course we photograph the whole process and collate the images in an image so you can display the carnage in your home.
Some might see it as a waste, but it’s a bit of fun that babies can safely take part in while having some messy play. Also, it’s super cute.
Firstly we take some normal portrait images without the cake so you have some birthday images of them without the mess. Sibling and family photos are also welcome!
Fair warning!
Warning to you parents, sometimes you get a cakey cuddle so a spare t-shirt may come in handy. Of course the Sensible option is to send in a sibling.
Don't like cake?
No problem. We can swap cake for fruit, sugar free jelly or bubbles, or even just allow them to play with some toys and take some natural photos of them. I welcome to all suggestions!
For a simple portrait session with no cake please see the portraits section.

The wonderful Anna over at The Cake Cwtch makes each of my cake smash cakes in her amazing 5* rated kitchen. Each made fresh for your child and I collect them on the day of your photoshoot. Together we come up with the design of your cake based on your colour scheme often finding that a simple 6" ombre cake is the best way to go.
